" 숙소는 숙소답게, 집이랑은 다른 편안한 설렘이 있어야 하니까요. "
저는 패브릭으로 가방, 옷 등을 만드는 소품 공방을 운영하다가
새로운 도전으로 스무날이라는 숙소를 운영하게 되었어요.
주변 지인들의 적극 추천으로 시작하게 되었지만, 이제는 제게 큰 의미를 가지는 너무나 소중하고 사랑하는 공간이에요,
Introduction
Q : 이 공간은 어떤 이야기에서 시작되었을까요?
생각보다 욕심이 나기 시작하더라고요. 10군데 넘게 숙소를 보러 다녔는데 여기가 제일 따뜻해 보이는 거에요. 햇빛이 정말 잘 들어오고, 집 구조 자체도 너무 아늑하고. 고창을 살리고 통창으로 만들고 해달라고 했어요. 인테리어에 제 손이 안 닿은 곳이 없고, 저 간살문양 아래에 통유리창을 하겠다고 한 것도 제 고집이었어요. 점점 하고 싶은 게 많아지더라고요. 그래서 더 애정을 갖게 된 것 같아요.
Q : 이 공간을 처음 떠올린 순간, 그리고 지금도 가장 마음이 머무는 자리는 어디일까요?
저는 저희 마당에 불멍 하는 공간을 정말 좋아해요. 곳곳에 의자를 많이 두고 다같이 앉아 있을 수 있는 공간을 만들고자 했어요. 가족 단위로도 많이 오시는데, 저희 숙소가 그런 소통의 공간이면 했어요. 저희가 재방문율도 높은 편이거든요. 다시 찾아주시는 분들에게 새로운 걸 보여주고 싶어요. 그래서 화분도 들였다가 뺐다가 하고, 조명도 더 설치하고 그러거든요.
Q : 이곳에 담긴 이야기, 그리고 호스트님이 전하고 싶은 가치가 궁금해요.
저희가 단가가 엄청 저렴하다거나 하지는 않아요. 그래서 그만큼의 가치를 제공해드리려고 해요. 핸드워시나 침구류는 비건 브랜드를 고집하고, 닳아지지 않게 신경을 써요. 이런 시계나 화분에 두는 소품들 거의 다 제가 만드는 거거든요. 또 비대면으로 오시는 분들은 대면을 별로 좋아하지 않으시는 경우도 있어요. 그래서 직접 만나지는 않지만 응대가 굉장히 빠르다는 장점이 있고요. 무엇보다도 청결이 중요하죠. 제가 직접 청소를 하는데, 그래야 제 성에 차더라고요. 조명을 이곳저곳 많이 설치해둬서 밤에 공간이 더욱 예뻐요.
Q : 이런 사람이면 좋겠다. 특히 추천하고 싶은 투숙객이 있다면요?
어쩌면 조금 얼떨떨하게 오픈을 하게 됐는데, 첫 손님으로 오신 분이 너무 좋았다고 하시면서 가시는 거에요. 정말 깨끗하게 쓰고 가셨고, 저는 그 손님이 처음으로 와 주셔서 더 힘을 얻은 것 같아요. 4번 재방문 해주신 분은 지금까지 자 본 곳 중에 가장 좋다고도 하셨어요. 관광하러 오셨는데 집이 좋아서 여기서 놀다가 가신 분도 계셨어요. 어린이들은 마당에서 뛰어놀기도 하고요. 저는 스무날을 지쳐 있는 사람에게 추천하고 싶어요. 가족여행이나 기념일 목적도 많지만 사연 있는 여행객들에게도 편안함을 제공할 수 있다면 좋겠어요.
Q : 숙소 주변이나 이 지역만의 특별한 장소가 있을까요?
보통 이 주변에 행사를 보러 가기도 하시고요. 스무날 블로그에 식당이나 카페 같은 맛집 추천도 해두었으니 한 번씩 참고해주시면 좋겠어요. 광주에서도 많이 오시는데 빵을 엄청 사서 포장해 가기도 하시더라고요. 이 공간 자체가 터줏대감처럼 항상 있는 가게가 있는 반면에 또 새로 생기는 가게도 많아서 옛날과 현재가 공존하는 동네라고 볼 수 있어요.
Q : 그럼에도 어려웠던 점이 있나요?
제가 공간을 보면서 차차 고쳐나가는 부분들이 있어요. 사실 엄청 크게 바꾸는 건 아니지만, 족욕 부분에 조경은 작년 12월에 만들었거든요. 화분 물 떨어지는 위치도 조정해서 뒀고요. 내가 봤을 때 불편한 곳은 바꾸자. 라는 마음으로 그렇게 신경을 쓰게 되더라고요. 소품을 만들고 배치하지만 절대 과하지는 않게 하려고 하고 있어요. 집에도 물건이 많은데, 숙소에도 많으면 오자마자 피로하실 수도 있으니까요.
Q : 스무날이라는 이름이 공간과 참 잘 어울리는 것 같아요. 무슨 의미가 있는 건가요?
저희가 26번지에요. 그래서 처음에는 “26번째”로 하려고 했는데 지인들이 그렇게는 발음이 어려운 것 같다고 하더라고요. 그래서 다같이 공모를 해봤을 때 스무날이라는 이름이 나왔어요. 곱씹을수록 좋더라구요. 그래서 그렇게 확정됐죠.
